Using the limbs of yoga and the kosha model
This class will weave teaching methods based on the limbs of yoga and the kosha model. These models lay the foundation of understanding the importance of sizing up your students as they enter the classroom to provide a practice that makes sense to what they want and need. Working within the framework of yoga traditions with an emphasis on health and wellness learn to sequence a class, use verbal cues, and looking at adjustments vs/ assistance.
Teaching can be fun and rewarding, but finding the right place to teach your style can be challenging. In this dynamic foundations of teaching workshop learn to refine and hone your teaching style and skills. Review, discuss and learn the business of teaching, what you need to know about students abilities, improve sequening of a class, and how to provide safe adjustments with verbal cues. Learn how to modify postures and when to teach variations of the postures.
Learn, discuss, and practice the differences between relaxation and meditation using breathing practices (pranayama) and the 5 step approach to mediation. What are the best ways to practice and what is required to teach meditation in the classroom. Come and rejuvenate the mind, body and spirit. Still the mind into a state of inner awareness and intentional detachment from random thoughts and images in this 3 hour workshop. The how’s and why’s. If it was easy everyone would be doing it.
How does one teach to a variety of ages and issues? All classes are all levels even when we label as beginner, intermediate, or advanced. Each person attending comes to their mat with their own bagage and issues. Whether a student is 20 or 60 years of age (or beyond) a yoga teacher is expected to provide a great class. This 3 hour workshop will explore the multi aged class and issues that often present in the classroom and will discuss how yoga practice changes within each decade of life.
